Summary Chapter 13-20

Chapter 13 Trouble

          The din from the nearby playground was almost deafening at times. Anna sometimes wondered why they had to make so much noise just playing a game of ball. The boy are behaving better. But Anna still fear that they will get trouble from nature. Rain was falling everyday, Anna was thankful that the new church building was waterproof. The rain finally did cease to fall and things began to dry out. They boys come to her house and give the money for the window they broke.

Chapter 14 Sorrow

          The next day, Austin told Anna that Timmy Lawes her favorite child, has gone by drowning accident. Anna and Austin stayed the night to comfort the child family. But when night came and it was time to tuck the children into the bed that had been prepared in the living room floor, Anna wonder that it took her hours to still the fears, dry the tears, and comfort the people. They had the funeral service two days later. The building was finish but still Anna worried about how to act as the minister's wife.

Chapter 15 Concerns

          Anna was preparing for her Sunday lesson, Mr. Brady was her teacher. Anna didn't have the courage to speak in class. Anna like to study so that she could glean all that was possible from the lessons. Understanding the laws and the reason of their existence helped her gain clearer picture of God. The sermon had progressed step by step. Anna wish that Austin's preaching would be important to five young ladies. The new parishioner named Mrs. Larkins was a widow that doesn't have any children. Anna feel sad for her. Austin and the others help the new member get moved in and settled. Anna prayed that there wouldn't be any trouble for her husband.

Chapter 16 Lessons


          Mrs. Larkins ways were much more subtle. She prayed that the congregation might not blame Austin for the overtures.  Anna was sure that people were talking behind Mrs. Larkins back, no one could be blind to the intent young widow. Anna feel jealous of Austin that young widow get his attention. Austin plan that they should have the Christmas service, but no one volunteer.

Chapter 17 Passing Days

          Anna's days were more than full. With the passing weeks, Anna's coming child made everything she did just a bit more difficult. She knew that God was looking after her little one all the time. Anna and Austin named their first daughter Margaret Mae. Everyone was excited about Anna and Austin's daughter. Mrs. Paxton also one of them, she was the first to see little Maggie. Then Anna take Maggie to see Mrs. Lawes, but then she knew that it was a mistake Mrs. Lawes cries because she misses her son. Even though the work and a new mother was difficult Anna didn't complain she was happy that she have Maggie.

Chapter 18 Another Summer

          Summer had really arrived, the kid made good use of the play area. Anna knew that Ben was sick because he didn't appear at the play area. Anna visit Ben at the Crosses house, she feed him eggnog. No one in the whole town would have guessed that Matt Cross would be the preacher's first convert. The Barker had made a big difference to Mr. and Mrs. Cross.

Chapter 19 Baptism

          Anna's days seemed to be more than full, what with the garden, calling, housekeeping, care of baby Maggie, and duties at the church. Mr. Cross meet with Austin once a week, together they studied the Scriptures about the Christian life. Ben finally recovered from his ill and join his friend again in baseball. Then Mrs. Landers told Anna that the neighbor's pig got out and they most ruined Anna's garden. The garden was worse that Anna could think about, she prayed to the Lord to help her out of this problem. Matt Cross wanted to be baptized, it was a surprise for many people to see the new Matt Cross. After the baptize, Austin catch a cold because the water was cold and the wind chill him to the bone. Anna's made a chicken soup that got from Mr. Brady.

Chapter 20 Disturbing News

Ben and Sid came to Anna's house acting strange, when Anna's ask them they just told that uncle Mart is visiting. When Anna's go to their house she was shock because she saw Matt was dead drunk. Matt just got baptize, the Barker are very disappointed.
